No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Keep the faith Natalie....I was lucky enough to get two calls from Eric over the last couple of days...they are in port somewhere in the mideast...he wasn't supposed to elaborate due to security....first I've talked with him since Sept. 8 when he left on cruise. You've just started a long Navy journey Natalie so patience is the key...and remember the old saying about no news being good news!

Thanks Tony... no calls for me today though. My son has only been gone 8 days though. Still hoped being Christmas and all! I sure miss my son big time!

We received our Christmas phone call. It was short but Eric sounded great. He has passed his 1.5 mile run and it's on to battlestations now I think. He has to run the 1.5 mile again but he didn't seem worried. A week ago he was worried about passing it because he had pulled a muscle in his abdomen doing PT and was on LLD. He said the stomach muscle only hurts real bad now when he does push ups. He said for Christmas they were taken to a Church off base and allowed to play games, eat, and use the phone. He seemed happy but figures tomorrow will be extra PT to work off the food and fun. I think he told his girlfriend as graduation gets closer to keep writing but he may not get to write back and we're wondering if they might possibly hold his incoming letters. He also said he would get another phone call after battlestations to let us know if he will be graduating on the 9th for sure. I guess if they have problems they have to repeat part of boot camp and it changes their PIR date. Hopefully everything will go well for him. And yes the mail was slow out of GL. Our last letter was a couple days late. We usually get it on thursday as he is allowed to write only on Sunday. I just stuck with the ship number on sending his mail. As far as I know he's getting all his mail, his girlfriend uses the ship number also. Don't worry Natalie, we received his box of personals before we received a letter also. Hang in there, the letters and calls will come.

I didn't receive my letter and my son has been gone a week. I received his box real fast though. Tomorrow is going to be very hard.

I wish you all a Merry and Bless Christmas!

For those who did not receive letters this week, the mail has been very slow out of Great Lakes. We usually get our letters on Thursdays, but the last week we got them on Saturday. Anyone with a recruit in Div. 58?
