my daughter was surprised how many people could not swim well or at all
she said they put them in special classes to help them pass the test
the navy wants him to pass and he will.
my wife is stuck at the las vegas airport trying to fly to PIR in geat lakes
christmas eve at 9.00 am

This may seem like a stupid question, but here goes. My son got to make his 2nd call today and he said he still has to pass his prone float, which he has failed twice. His next chance will the 1/12 and he is supposed to PIR on 1/23. He said there are like 20 guys in his division that still have to pass this. He has passed everything else with flying colors. If his PIR is delayed, how long do they usually delay it? My dilemma is work as my time off if not guaranteed for any other dates other than his initial PIR.

Hey, Tony. It is good to hear from you. Did you switch over to the ship number for the address? I was wondering which one is best to use. I know they will both get there but I wonder if one is quicker than the other is. We are also hoping for a phone call on Christmas but are trying not to get our hopes up. Some have said they got them last year and some have said they did not. I make sure I write to him everyday mostly about what we did that day or something in the news. The pictures on the back are a good idea. I may take that one from you. Hopefully by Jan. 9th PIR the weather will calm down for you. It has really been a mess up there.

Robert, we felt the same way. We got our letter after Eric had been there a couple weeks. He left on Nov. 17th and the very first letter was dated Nov. 20th but I think they took their time mailing it. The second letter took about 5 days to get it after he actually wrote it. The first letter was a typed letter from the Captain with only a couple lines for him to write on . A few days later we got a long, more personal letter . The second letter and every letter after that had the return address with the ship number, sailor drive. At first we was afraid he was not getting our letters because we were sending them to the address with the building number like the letter we got first. A day or two after the second letter we got a phone call. They give him 45min. to talk. He talked to us about 5 and the rest to his girlfriend but it was a good feeling hearing from him. Also, when he called he said please keep sending letters. Altghough he is only allowed to write on Sunday, he can receive mail every day and it really means a lot to get that letter from home. I usually write him on one side of the paper and print the other side full of pictures. This cuts down on space and if he has to chunk them, no big deal. I can always print more. Right now we're looking for a Christmas day phone call since we couldn't go adopt him out for the day. Then its just a couple weeks to PIR on Jan. 9th. Although I dread the drive from SC, I can't wait to see him.

Hello to all, today we finally got our first letter from our son that started Boot Camp on 12/2/08. What a relief to finally hear from him. He sounded very upbeat and seems to be doing well. Others with recruits in the same division started getting their first letter as early as last Wednesday, 12/17/08, so we were wondering - where is our letter? Thurs. & Fri. we were wondering – what’s going on? – I have no letter. Sat. & Sun. it turned more to worry. We were telling ourselves if something were wrong we would have been called. But Monday the valuable letter arrived. I guess the thing to get out of this is do not worry if you do not get your first letter when others do. It will come.

Easy for me to say that now, huh:)

Ted- I'm pretty sure you won't have any issues with him getting his mail at the address you supplied. There have been a couple other posts with this question and from what I can remember, mail went through without a problem.

my uncle Ryan passed all his tests. we get to go to his graduation and pick him up for Christmas. YES!
