No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Hey ya'll, hope everyone is doing well. Justin should be getting poked and prodded (physical) right about now and we are anxiously awaiting his phone call to tell us how well he "walked like a duck". :-)), Oh, the memories.
My wife and I drove down to Richmond yesterday to spend a few hours with him after he arrived at the hotel. After some shoe shopping (running shoes for him to get started) and a good meal and Cracker Barrel we had to drop him off so that he could get a good nights sleep before his 0415 wake up call. He is a little on edge because this is the first time he has been away from home without friends and/or family with him, but he'll be just fine.
He sent me a text message at 0420 telling me "up and at em shipmate...can't you hear that bugle souding...get up, get up, get up". Pretty funny I thought.
I just can't seem to find the words to tell him how proud of him I am.

Robert S... Yes in deed! Awesome, we had a nice day and now he is getting some of his things organized before his recruiter picks him up at 6:30 to go to the hotel. He said he's getting a physical tomorrow too. I could have sworn he already did that! Anyway I'm off to help... Hope you have a nice evening!

Natalie, that is great news! I had a feeling things were going to work out. Enjoy the next few days with your son.

I am hoping my son was able to write his first letter today. He has been in for almost two weeks now and I know they are only allowed to write on Sundays. I’ll be watching the mail later this week.

Good Morning Everyone! After my last post about them taking my son early things changed yet again but I'm happy I have my son a couple more days. I was so upset when I thought I was losing the last few days I had with before leaving. We are celebrating Christmas and my son this weekend as he will be shipped out on Wednesday as originally planned. Tonight his recruiter is picking him up and taking him to the hotel where all the other December shippers will also be because they are meeting with the Master Chief and a couple other important people tomorrow morning for an inspection. (Has anyone else had this happen?) Then they will let him come back home and pick him up again Tuesday evening for his final night before leaving. I will for sure be at MEPS on Wednesday to see him sworn in! I'm also taking him to dinner at the hotel on Tuesday night. They said he just can't leave the hotel which is fine with me. What a roller coaster of motions I tell ya! Thanks for being here!!!

Saben the videos at the top of this page will give you a good idea of beginning to end of Navy boot camp. It is were they turn you from a civilian to a Sailor.
