No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Is there any way to tell which ships and divisions are participating in the Captain's Cup?

Its possible he donated his clothes to charity. They give them that option

I guess we have been getting spoiled, our SR has called every weekend after P days, but no call this weekend.  Hope they were just to busy.

In the immortal words of Yukon Cornelius, Wahooo! Just received the I'm a sailor call from our son a little while ago! He sounded tired and his voice was worn out but he is feeling good! can't wait to see him graduate next week!

I would stop sending at least 7 days before his scheduled PIR and would feel safer it it were 10 days-- no telling what kind of mail delays there might be.

matter of fact photo requests have become so totally ridiculous, that RTC posted this on their FB page:

As Recruit Training Command's facebook page grows, we have noticed a few trends that need to be addressed.

The purpose of this page is to connect family and friends and to provide a forum to pass official news and messages. Constant requests for pictures of individual recruits and divisions is not what we're here for. Your recruit is here to prepare and train for the Fleet, not pose for pictures. If we were to honor every request for a picture, it would certainly become a distraction to their training. Please help us by informing new fans of our page of this policy.

With that being said, Trivia Tuesday is the only guaranteed way to see your recruit posted on this facebook page. In this past, Trivia Tuesday has gone away due to responses that reflect poorly with what we are trying to accomplish on this page. Two new rules to Trivia Tuesday will start tomorrow:

1. Edited answers will not be accepted. We are able to tell if a response has been changed and if this happens, it is no longer a valid entry.
2. Our determination as to who is the winner of Trivia Tuesday is final.

We really do enjoy doing Trivia Tuesday, but only as long as responses remain positive and it enhances the overall message of this page. Thank you to all the family and friends for your continued support!!

The only pictures available from RTC are those posted by RTC and occasional random photos. The winners of the Trivia Tuesday contest get to request a photo-those are the ones we post after they are posted to the RTC FB page. The random photos have no caption or information so division assignments are almost impossible to make.

My step-son has his PIR 11/22/2013. I have sent him a card each day but when is the last day I can send him correspondence to the Great Lake address? I am not even sure how long it takes for the mail to get to him from the day I send it.
