No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Yea. I figure if I give her a task to work on it'll distract her from her own depression and if she succeeds in making everyone happy then the environment will be better. Not as negative. It'll be her legacy. I also told her if she wants to come home, she can. I told her we'd struggle for a few years, maybe several but we'd be together each night but if she stays a few more weeks we'd be set for life. That'll put things in perspective I hope.

know it's tough Cody...hang strong and always positive for your sailor!!! You did a sly psychological trick in asking her to motivate her shipmates.....well done!!!  It displaces attention from her depression into something she can do and thereby overcome her feelings of negativity!

I got 6 letters from Siera today. She's really depressed but I told her to stay strong. I told her to motivate her ship mates and keep them strong too. Told her to keep going and be the strong woman I know she is. Our mail lady went and bought siera a wonderful card for us to send to her. I love our mail lady

you can stay at this Navy Lodge if you have a sailor going through PIR.  You will have to give PIR info when you reserve the room....

Brandon, unfortunately because of a misinformed young lady at the Navy Lodge, we stayed at the Ramada. I was told by her that you had to have a military ID to stay their in spite of telling her it was for my son's PIR. Anyway, I tried I believe it was a Holiday Inn and they were booked so I panicked a bit thinking that the area hotels may be booked solid (there was also a huge event going on in Chicago that weekend). Since the Ramada was listed in the brochure sent along with the form letter, we booked it. We didn't have any bugs in the room but that was the only positive. It was dingy, drab, laid out horribly (difficult to navigate around and we had two rooms that were seemingly miles apart) and the staff was a bit abrupt. So as the others have pointed out, I would pretty much stay anywhere else.
