No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Sure thing, Bob T.  The new sailors sometimes have been craving "something" because they've been limited to "healthy" during Boot Camp.  Our daughter wanted pizza (they had it after Battle Stations as a reward), even though they'd just had it a few days earlier.  There are lots of really good places to eat within easy distance of the hotels, too.

Thanks a lot Chris!

Does anyone know of any decent places to eat dinner near RTC? We will be flying in this Thursday and may attend Sarge's meet and greet, but we will be looking for a place to eat dinner on Friday night (hopefully with our sailor).

Jerri, I had the great opportunity to take my son to the Army/Navy football game last season. I knew it was probably the last chance he would have to go for a while. I highly recommend to anyone that has never been to go at least once. Quite an experience. He is now in A School at Great Lakes and says he is loving it.

Today our son Alex left for Navy boot camp. He spends the night in downtown Dallas then tomorrow he goes to MEPS and the airport headed for Great Lakes Navel Base outside of Chicago.

The book of Psalm 127:4 says: "Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the sons born in one’s youth." The psalm is actually talking about the added protection of the family that having sons gave a father in that day (more hands to hold swords). Alex is actually going to help defend more than our family he will be defending our nation. I am very proud of him for that and many other reasons.

So As he leaves I say him: "Fly little arrow, fly straight and true to the Lord Jesus Christ, defend us with honor and share Jesus with those around you.

And as he leaves I say to God: "Help my arrow fly true to you, keep him as safe as your sovereign will allows and use him to further and glorify your kingdom in ways and to such a degree that it shocks us all!"
