No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Just wanted to say I am so glad to see all of you joining up on here.  A few months back when I signed up - didnt seem to be very much activity.  I know that all the admins have lives aside from navydads and we all have lives - but to see all you guys on here is awesome!!!   I just have a question about the Navy football - how do I find a tv schedule of when they will be airing some games?  I am wanting to "go Navy".

Check in with the Ship 5 Group at http://www.navydads.com/group/ship5formerlyship17 he can challenge and you can call all kinds of folks and write tons of letters....sorry to say I haven't heard of a single challenge being accepted and a sep being overturned.

Our Son is in SEPS, and we are very concerned. We understand he can challenge the medical issue

Nathan,

What items can we bring or not bring to PIR?

Small purses, small diaper bags and cameras/video recorders are allowed. Strollers, car seats and backpacks are allowed, but discouraged due to space limitations. Due to security regulations, luggage is not permitted inside the drill hall. You can leave these items in your car. The taking of photographs/video is allowed at the Visitor Center and encouraged during the entire ceremony; however NO photography/video is permitted outside of these buildings. Contraband also will be confiscated and you may not be permitted entry. These items include but are not limited to: alcohol, illegal drugs, knives or weapons of any kind.

All persons, articles and vehicles are subject to security searches. Metal detectors and other security devices are in use onboard Recruit Training Command. Expect a delay at the security checkpoints due to this added security requirement.

Glad to hear that Stephanie. In regards to pics of our recruits, well, on Facebook, the RTC page will post pics every week of the graduation class. Occasionally, about once every two weeks, they will post random photos of recruits in training. There is no rhyme or reason to these photos. I'd assume they would usually be a senior division. But the RTC has requested, that we as parents, do not post requests for specific ships or divisions to be photo'd and posted as they cannot nor will they entertain such requests. They simply don't have the man power to be able to do this. That being said, every Tuesday, the RTC page posts a trivia question. Whoever answers the question correctly first, gets to select a division to be photo'd. There is no set time for the question, so it could pop up at any time during the day. But it is a chance to get your SR's division photo'd and posted. Hope that helps!

Bill - My son will be heading to Pensacola as well. Did you have time to spend with your son after PIR? We are hoping to get a little time with him before he flies down to Pensacola.

Bob T, it is quite amazing how quickly it goes by. The first week it seemed like the minutes turned into hours....but then zoom! My son has been in A school now for 10 weeks....2 weeks longer than boot!

Exactly 7 weeks today since my son arrived at RTC. Time went by pretty quick, considering how much we miss him! I cannot wait to see him next week!
