No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny
Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.
RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

the wait starts now guys.....about a week for the "Sailor in a Box" and about the same time the form letter with PIR info, address and other information. If you plan to drive onto the base for PIR there is a password on that letter to download the parking pass....that pass is not available until 11 days before PIR

Just got my "I'm here" call too. Same robotic scripted message as you got. Did wind up getting an "I love you" out of him in the end.

Just got the "I'm here" call from my SR. It was kind of funny because he sounded so robotic reciting the script, and it was such a contrast with his upbeat call from the airport. It was a big help that he knew that we knew what to expect.

Mazjake...when did your son leave for boot camp? I still haven't gotten a letter(form) or call and mine left Aug 13.

We got our form letter today with the PIR date, 25 October 2013. His group # is Ship 3 Division 401. Very exciting! Now we know how many Fridays to count. Have our tickets and reservation all set!! I guess I can write him a letter now.

Randy, the first few weeks are a little hard. Im at home with the baby while my wife is away. But she went through this when I went in and now that shes in I understand. Its up to us just to support them as best we can and remember. no news is good news

We took our recruit to the hotel today. There was quite a crowd of young people. Our son said a lot of them were Army. We had to wait around quite a long time while they all got checked in and situated, but we got to have dinner with our son. It is off to MEPS in the morning for his swearing-in, and the vigil begins.
