No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Stephanie Brawner:  We have Verzion, suspended our daughter's account for a 10-month deployment, then activated it the day before they were due back.  ZERO charge.  Did you mention, "He's in the Navy"?  We had no quibbling or trying to charge a thing.  "We'll be happy to assist."

Thanks for the advice, I like the idea of keeping her phone "active" so she can see all the missed calls/texts from her friends and family who wasn't able to see her off.

She left for boot last week, and we're waiting for her first letter so we can send ours.

I called AT&T and I wasn't told about a $10 a month to put my son's phone on suspension.I think it's a hassle so I'm not doing anything about it. BTW my son paid 2 months advanced when he left for boot camp. I'm bringing it to PIR if I ever find out when his is. He left Aug 13 and no from letter or personal letter from him yet.

The only time you should suspend a mobile account is if it works to your advantage. Example is you call it in as "lost" or "stolen" they will suspend your mobile account but for a fee until you find your device or get a replacement. Usual monthly cost for a mobile plan is around $40. So if suspending the line only cost you $10 a month vs. $40 then you win! But don't forget to re-enable the account and find out if there are any other additional charges associated with the suspension and how long.

We opted to just leave my son's phone alone since it's only a couple of months anyway since he got his phone back after BC.

Douglas don't do anything with it. Turn it off put it on a charger and give it to her at the PIR. She will enjoy seeing who called and texted her while she was at RTC. Why go thru all of the hassle. My son wanted his as soon as he got off base.

since you have her phone it's your choice as to what you do with it......

Can someone explain the purpose of doing a military suspension on our SR's cell phone while in boot camp? I just spent 45 minutes on the phone with AT&T only to be told that if we suspend  our daughter's phone line, not only are we responsible fir the normal charges, but also a $10/month fee for the suspension!!! What's the purpose of suspending her line? AM I missing something or do I need to talk with more supervisors?

Thank you all for the replies. I think I replied to one person but meant the group but will get used to the forum soon enough.

Apologies for any missed messages.

Lots of time to read and study up Mike....you'll know more about what he will be doing and studying than he will!!!!  Welcome!

First post here. Hope you all are well. My son doesn't leave for boot until 11-19 so I'm early. I am very excited for him to get the experience going.
