No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny
Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.
RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

As far as I know RTC is strict about following the posted policy which went into effect this January and stands as posted with emphasis on
Individuals who are not on the access list will NOT be authorized admission into the drill hall. We do NOT have a designated waiting area nor do we offer a standby list.
The bold is THEIR emphasis and not ours.....
Paul, I realize that our SR is only authorized to put four names on the list for "guaranteed" admission to PIR. From several posts, though it appears that once everyone on the lists are seated, that they will allow additional personnel into the drill hall to observe the ceremony. If that is incorrect let me know. If it's correct, my question is when would we find out if there are seats available for folks - 30 minutes prior, 15 minutes etc.
you have to realize something....there are NO extra seats anymore. Since January policy has been that there are 4 seats for PIRs with less than 13 divisions and 3 seats for PIR with 13 or more divisions....that's it according to RTC policy. This is off their official site:
The number of guests allowed per recruit is dependent on the number of divisions in the training group.
Less than 12 divisions within the training group: FOUR guest maximum per recruit.
13 or more divisions within the training group: THREE guest maximum per recruit.
Please coordinate with the recruit as only recruits may place names on the access list. RTC staff can neither change these names nor release the names of those on the list.
Individuals who are not on the access list will NOT be authorized admission into the drill hall. We do NOT have a designated waiting area nor do we offer a standby list.
If the 09/20/13 PIR Group only has 11 divisions, does anyone know if there would likely be additional seats available I realize the Navy won't release them until the day of PIR, but do the regular numbers indicate that would be the case?
Thanks for all the information gentlemen. Got call from daughter today. Indications to me are that a spotter was inaccurate tuesday. Daughter says she should have been with her division today. Daughter will not do anything that would attract attention to herself so she didn't report the issue she had with her spotter.
Bob: Daughter went to gym almost every night since joining deps in October. She watched her caloric intake, she worked out at home when she didn't at the gym. She watched all the videos, I hardly saw her for the few months before she left for basic. She was always watching something from the Navy.mil site.
I know these kids work there butts off to do this and it means alot to them and just have a hard time believing things that I read about still go on even though they are not supposed to. That is just saddening to me.
I am amazed at how many people are not physically prepared for boot camp before they go in. With all the information on the internet and the DEP, you would think they would have plenty of time to prepare. My son was running in races and working out 4-5 days a week way before he headed to boot camp.
Looking for information on Ship 04 FIT, can someone help
My son just departed yesterday and should be heading over to great lakes tomorrow,I think that s how it will go.
no phone call yet.
