My son left on February 6th and we heard from him on Saturday he sounded really tired, but is doing well. His PIR date is April 5th i can't wait to see him and how much he has changed, after he graduates he will be heading to San Antonio for MA training, will he have time in A school if we want to visit him there as well?

My son contacted his mom on Saturday.  She said he sounded kind of down and missed home.  I told her that is all part of the process.  I am sure he tired and uncertain about the future.  His PIR is March 29th.  I am sure the next phone call we receive, he will be a little more upbeat.

Thanks Chris! I have already told my son that it is better to spend some time in prayer with The Lord every week as opposed to a scrub brush or mop!!

And it is suggested for those of any faith that they take the time to attend the appropriate services held on the training facility.  Those who wish not to are given clean-up duties for their entertainment.

Sundays they follow what they call Holiday Schedule and they have a few hours for letter writing or other personal tasks.

Let me show some more naivety and ask, during boot camp are the recruits working/training 7 days a week for the 8 weeks? Or do they get any recovery time on Sundays?

Paul congratulations!! I can assure you that many of us dads will be in the same emotional state when we experience this with our new sailors!! I plan to wear a buttonless shirt and carry extra handkerchiefs to PIR!! :-)

Congrats Paul and Gordon! I'm anxiously awaiting that day.  I got to speak to my daughter on Friday night and she is doing well.  She said it's hard but the hardest part is missing her family and friends so letters are better than Christmas morning.  I just want to encourage the families to continue to send letters and don't worry about not hearing back as often as you'd like... this is our time to support them so it's like Christmas, it's more important to send than to receive.

Good to hear Paul. Could not have said it better. It appears both our sons are off to HM school along with a few others.
