No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

the form letter, and each of the two letters I have received so far, all have slightly different return addresses....I have always used the most current address my SR put on their mail to me....should this not be correct, will my sailor still get the mail?  I am concerned that no one here has recieved any mail or phone calls in a couple of weeks, although the parents of others in the same SHip/DIV have reicieved both....I know there are many reasons my SR may not have written, but I cannot help but to worry.....any reassurances would be appreciated.

I have not found anything about the 2012 Adopt A Sailor program, but I continue to look.  Usually that program is restricted to the two training groups with PIRs within two weeks of Thanksgiving.

Different Scott here...Would it be OK to ask if in the past, SRs with  PIRs the week after Thanksgiving were usually eligible for the Adopt a Sailor program?

And also please note the OPSEC link that I referred to in your site welcome message that is in the About This Site area which is on the right side of every NavyDads page

please be careful when talking about BS21 .... schedules are considered classified and should not be shared in open forums as that would be a OPSEC violation

Congratulations Mark & Gary!

@Gary...I commuted from the suburbs into Chicago on the METRA for over a decade.  It is very reliable.

I can understand why your son wants to see Chicago.  If you do end up going you will be have at least an hour each way on the METRA to sit and talk.  The seats flip over to face each other, so, you can sit in a group of 4.

Once you get to the station (whether Union or C&NW) there are a number of things to see close by or within a short cab ride.  Not sure what the Sears tower is called these days, but if it's clear it would be worth a ride up to the observation deck.  There is a boat tour on the Chicago River, or you can walk or cab to the lakefront and just take a stroll.  If you're doing Pizza, I'd suggest Pizzeria Uno...just north of downtown.  However, that can take a couple of hours on a Saturday.  One word of caution, if you're returning to the train station after dark (and after the workers have gone home), take a cab to the train station.  It is usually safe, but I have on occasion experienced some less than friendly types walking at night downtown.
