No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny
Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.
RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Gary Congrats!!
bet kicking back after a looooooong shower and pizza would be pretty attractive as opposed to the rush trying to get into and out of town!!!
from my experience at pir on 10/5 if he leaves sat he will have to be back on base by 8 pm and to get to chicago and back seems like it would be a close call plus think he would enjoy just spending time with you just my 2 cents worth
He leaves for NAS Pensacola sometime Saturday.. I figured getting to Chicago would be a stretch but he wants to check it out. It looks like the Metra takes the better part of an hour one way ? But I dont know if they stay on schedule ? I do know you dont want to be late getting back to base .. probably best to stay put and enjoy the time hanging out up north.
getting into and out of Chi-town with limited time is about impossible.....just a warning
Gary, it is a proud feeling indeed, congratulations to you your son and family. Will be tough for you to get to Chicago and back to base by 1900. We opted to spend more time with our son locally, than traveling back and forth. If hee is staying in Chicago for A school then you will have all Sat and most of Sunday to do this. Good Luck to you and your Sailor!
Told you so!!! Congratulations!!!!
Hoorah we have a new Sailor ! just got the call and I am filled with pride. He sounds great relieved and very tired. He said they get to hit the rack early tonight so they can kick butt tomorrow during Captains cup then on to cruise control until PIR....He is determined to get to Chicago post PIR on friday ? Has anybody pulled this off with the limited amount of time before he needs to be back to RTC ? Anyways did I mention how proud I am of all the new sailors minted today ?
from RTC regarding PIR 21 Nov::
Recruits attending "A" school in Great Lakes will depart on 21 Nov and report to their new command. Following normal check-in procedures, they will be authorized liberty Wednesday, 21 Nov and Thursday, 22 Nov.
Recruits attending "A" school outside of Great Lakes will depart RTC 23 Nov. They will be authorized liberty Wednesday, 21 Nov and Thursday, 22 Nov.
Gary, BST-21 is a twelve hour test and some sailors may be assigned watch duty which in turn means they won't be able to make that phone call right away but hang in there buddy you'll get that call...
Have a great weekend!
