No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny
Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.
RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

This why we recommend folks do not talk to their recruiter for current addresses at RTC...wait for the form letter or other comm from your sailor as there is often a delay in recruiters getting correct updated into. Divisions are not assigned typically until the very end of P-days....
Just got off the phone with my son's recruiter regarding the Ship 02/04 Div 802 issue. He said the letters will get to him, but may be delayed 2 or 3 days. He also said that Ship 02 may have been a temporary location while he was in processing. It was a little disconcerting that when he looked him up in their system, he did not find him. The recruiter didn't seem concerned about his information not being entered yet. He is going to follow up next week and recheck their system. In any event, the Navy has him and is taking care of him. I'm sure this won't be the last time I'm a little in the dark about his location!
Thanks Alan...that makes perfect sense as to the fiscal year. I understood why there were less 800 divisions as when my son went through, there were only 2 800 divisons his 8 weeks...His and a pre-buds(SEAL divison). And its obvious they try to schedule these divisions where the recruits fill up a divison quickly...my son arrived on a Tuesday and we recieved his PIR info the following monday
Hey Craig... I agree, these forums are a God-send.
Love what this page does for us Dads...and love the fact that there are facebook pages out there for just about every group of Sailors there are...but it can be a mixed blessing...some of the parents of the SR's that are in the same ship/divsion as mine received phone calls today, not all of us though...was great to hear that some folks got the call, but was a bit heartbreaking to not get one too! I can only assume this is the norm, and those that did not call today will get their turn....I did get a letter today, so, all is good anyways!
Also, the 800 divisions are the special ops (SEALS, etc.) candidates. I'm presuming there may not be enough for a full division every week. So their numbers wouldn't go as high as the 900s.
Rick, I'm pretty sure the numbering resets on Oct. 1 since that is the start of the federal government's fiscal year. Note that the 900 divisions ended with 952... One new 900 division every week and 52 weeks in a year. The 9XX division provides the music and drill team for graduation each week for their Training Group (TG)... which also reset after #52. Note that the "regular" divisions' numbers have reset too.
I'm surprised that the 800 divisions have already reverted back to the lower numbers. My son was in 04/814 and PIR'd 29 June, 12....I know there are some divisions at GL now in the mid 820's.
Thanks, Jack. I searched for that discussion on Navy Moms after you posted your comment. It looks like my son is not the only one that thinks he's in Ship 02 Div 802. Hopefully, they aren't all just milling around somewhere in Ship 02 looking for their division! Just kidding. If there is a Ship 02 Div 802, we will have all learned something new. If he and the others messed up, it will be their first lesson in attention to detail. If the Navy messed up and told them the wrong Ship # when filling out their letters, well, I don't know what to say.
