No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

For those of you attending PIR on Oct. 12, please be advised that 14 divisions will be graduating that day. Each recruit is permitted to place four names on their access list, and we WILL NOT be able to accommodate any additional guests. Current policies regarding children under 12 and retired and active duty military personnel are in effect and these individuals will not count against the access list. THERE WILL BE NO STANDBY AVAILABILITY. As always, thank you for your continued support of the Navy's only boot camp, Recruit Training Command!

Congratulations to this week's Captain's Cup winners! Taking top honors for the non-integrated (all-male) divisions was Div. 947, and taking top honors for the integrated (male-female) divisions was Div. 322.

Captain's Cup is a fun, friendly athletic event held the Saturday prior to graduation for those divisions set to graduate. Events include activities such as basketball, volleyball, relay races and more.

Gregg, yes he can get stamps if he's got some cash. Not sure when he'd be given the chance to get them.  So I'd send the stamps back to him at the address you will receive on the form letter.  Enclose them in a letter.  Just don't send a card because the RDC will make your SR open it in front of everyone to make sure there's no "contraband." (If they had been in his wallet, they'd have let him keep them.)

in the "old days" we used to recommend parents contact their recruiter for address....NOW however, we suggest you wait for the form letter.  Many times the recruiter will not have the most current info from RTC.

Thanks for the quick reply. We will be waiting for the form letter. Will keep in touch. Thanks again.

Hey Gregg,

After we got the "box" it was about 7 days later that the form letter came.  The form letter will have the address and how to address your envelopes.  Also it will have the name who can attend PIR (graduation).  And it will have the password to use to get your pass here http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/upcoming_grads.asp  Some will tell you to call his recruit but I did that and got the wrong address.  Its best to wait for the letter.  Stamps? Mine was allowed to keep the stamps but wouldn't hurt to send them back. Welcome!

address will be on a form letter you'll get along with the box, or very closely to that.  if you drive onto base for PIR there is a password on that letter you'll need for a parking pass download.  patience with the letters....you'll get your share but it'll take a while.....

Hello,

My son arrived at Great Lakes on Sept 26. Just received his box today. Anyone know how we get his address.....thought it would be insde. Also my wife and I sent him up with two books of stamps. They both came home with his clothes etc. Is this normal? Will he be able to get stamps or should I send them back up when I get his address? Thanks.
