No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Sounds good Sean. What ship/division is your son in? Mine is in 13/309.

Ron BZ to your son and sailor Austin! They get to take home that "RECRUIT" cap. :)

Ship 13/Div 309 - My Son was in the first group of PIR 9/28 to go through BS21 (Thursday night). He said the capping ceremony was the most proud he's ever been. They lost in the Captain's Cup to one of the 800 Divs and then walked away with their heads held high because they had "NAVY" caps on rather than the "RECRUIT" caps of the other Divs that have not yet gone through BS21. He's excited to see us at graduation, but he said the Capping meant more to him than graduation will.

Go figure. Not 10 mins after my last post, my daughter got a call from my SR (they missed each other on his prior calls). He informed her when he would go through BS21. Out of respect for what Paul said, I'll just say he hasn't gone through it yet. Now I can put the proverbial "pins and needles" away. You guys are the greatest. PIR this Friday!

understood bud...we've been there!!!  Those final days are difficult....lots depend on things working out and very little communication make for days full of worry!

Thanks again Rick and Paul. As usual, you all came through again. I have a tendansy to over think things. I have no choice but to wait to hear something. Please forgive me. It's been a long boot camp for me and I'm sure more for my son. Just getting anxious as we enter into the final week. Thx again guys!

Sean....multiple divisions go through BS21 at the same time. My son went through the tuesday evening before his PIR. Some parents didn't get the I'm a sailoe call until the thursday before their PIR. Rest easy...

your sailors know the schedule...RTC considers that secure information and posting that info becomes an OPSEC violation therefore we do NOT and could not post even if we did in the open.
