No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny
Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.
RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

@V.Michael I thought that I was going to be the strong dad and try not to cry. Alot of her friends from High School were at the airport to see her off as well as a lot of her aunties, uncles, and cousins. When it came time for boarding the plane, she came up to me and the first thing out of her mouth was, "Dad I am sorry that I disappointed you and decided to join the military rather than go to college." I looked at her and couldn't hold it back. Who would not be proud of their daughter or son who is joining the Navy.
@Tom... thanks for the info... when did your sailor graduate?
...You can plan on being a bit of both...the doting father/nervous dad...for the next couple of months! The day you watch her graduate will make it all worth it. The next 8-9 weeks are a real emotional rollercoaster, so strap in for the ride! Best of luck to your daughter in her pursuits....
Awesome. Guys, the pride never ends. Our daughter had her PIR more than two years ago, and each time she passes another test, each time she moves up in rank, it is the same thing. Wait until you attend PIR, that's when it really starts to hit you.
@ Michael -- Congrats to your daughter Michael... I have one that is in DEP [Delayed Entry Program] that ships from MEPS on 061912... The closer it gets, the more I become unsure about what my emotions will be - doting father of daughter leaving to follow her dreams, or nervous dad, wondering what is going to happen to my 'baby girl' anxiously awaiting each little tidbit of information that comes once she gets on that plane to leave and start her new journey... or calm and collected dad, knowing that his 'daughter' is becoming a sailor and is serving her country, and believing that she can be all she wants to be once she completes basic training... Will have to wait and see.
I just got that call that everyone was talking about, all 10-15 seconds of it, it was sentimental in a way. After following/monitoring her entire trip from the South Pacific to Great Lakes,IL, its a relief to know that she made it safely there. Now the wait for the box, the address and then we begin sending her mail via snail mail. Can't remember the last time I wrote a letter and sent it USPS. The beginning of that metamorphosis of daddy's little girl (just turned 18 prior to enlisting) turning into a young adult. Can't wait to see her after boot camp.
We received the box, and a canned letter yesterday. She arrived at GL one week ago, and PIR is July 20th. Ship 04 Div 223. Very excited to hear from her, and now we have her address. Gotta go write a letter to my girl.
Deputy JJ, it was good to see your post regarding your son's notification of a PIR date of 20 July. Our son also left MEPS on 24 May and his recruiter told me he is assigned to ship 7 Division 225. We have not received anything except his box of stuff last Wednesday. Hopefully his canned notice will be arriving shortly.
Excellent, no matter the length of the journey, the dedication is amazing! Nice, Michael. That's a long, long trip.
