No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

I have been on this site since September, and our first child left home on Thursday night from American Samoa, she just called from Hawaii and has been sworn in and should hopefully be in Great Lakes by midnight tonight. My oldest son ships out on July 12th.

Our girl has been at GL for almost a week now. We can't wait to get the letter in another week or so, with a possible PIR date. Doing the research now for a road trip! Seems like the Navy Lodge is the best place to try to stay.

And so it begins.  Our son is at a hotel for 2 days waiting to go to be sworn in at the White Sox game on Tuesday.  Just why he had to go in so early is unclear but we are not to question.

BTW- be careful in assuming that week.....until you get the form letter (which is NOT included in the box) with the estimated PIR date, I wouldn't circle the date on the calendar yet....things change- sometimes there are "push" divisions that grad a week early and sometimes RTC delays a PIR for a week.....

in looking at the RTC webiste, you can guess that 225 will PIR a week following 220:

you can check on those dates at this link which is on the right side of every NavyDads page: http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/upcoming_grads.asp

Does anyone have a SR assigned to Ship 7, Div 225? We received our son's box on Wednesday,5-30,but no form with his mailing address. Called his recruiter on Thursday and was told he is assigned to ship 7, div 225. Do not know PIR date yet. Any new info. will be appreciated.

Great to hear stories that bring back proud memories. My son had his PIR on 05/18/2012. I remember getting his call and how it made me feel. There was not enough time to ask all the ?'s I had but just great to hear he was doing OK. The anticipation of PIR and praying he'd pass everything needed made time seem to stand still. It was all worth it ! ! ! PIR was awesome, and wow the difference in my son. He was obviously proud and it showed :). PS my son also was ready for boxer shorts. GL to you and your son and enjoy PIR and the time with your son. It's times like theese that makes being a Dad awesome ( Proud Navy Dad ! )
