No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny
Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.
RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Just had the best weekend of my life. That didn't include sex that is.
The inability to make concrete plans drives detail people like me CRAZY. PIR was AWSOME. Sarge was a GOD-send and I can't rave enough about how much he helped me and made the weekend a huge success. The Meet and Greet was PERFECT...Division 83 FB and Navy Moms wore yellow scarves and by the time Graduation happened I had 50 friends in the bleachers...all in our Division, and even met a few from other Divsisions as well. My little boy who was scared to death 8 weeks ago was standing in front of me wearing 3 red FN stripes and a sharpshooter ribbon. And the biggest smile I have ever seen on his face. Division 83 made Hall of Fame Division...way better than Captains Cup and were singled out for their accomplishment and had longer Liberty that night.
Spent 11 hours with my FN at O'Hare thanks to Sarge because my son couldn't remember where he was flying out of or when and I was there on a one-way ticket. Drinking coffee, watching the sun come up and talking to other graduates and parents that I met at the meet and greet made it the most memerable night ever.
Dads....have faith...they took my boy and improved him. Try to not cry while singing Anchors Aweigh at Graduation. Support and write them often in boot camp and wait to see how the Navy molds them into young adults. I have more grey hair than before, but they are happy grey hairs now. Go ahead and worry but have faith. Once I compose myself more I will pass on some PIR tips in the other forum. The stands were packed for 7 divisions graduating...next week with 14 divisions graduating will be insane. Good luck to those graduating next week. And GO NAVY !!!!!!
Folks,
I am not signing out! I am more than happy to continue to encourage as I will do as to pay it forward. I did get annoyed at the time the young male recruit died during the first week my daughter arrived, at the lack of information because as a parent we don't want to be left in the dark. However, as time passed I got over over that but my heart still go out for those parents. I will be receiving the posts via my e-mail, so I will be able to assist and respond to a parent quickly.
John - That is an outstanding you are here to provide help. In life, people need to "pay forward" to those that helped them. There is nothing better than hearing it from someone that just went through it. Whether your thoughts are good or bad, it doesn't matter. Being honest and saying how you felt is what dads need to hear. Us guys can understand other guys.
Just 3 days ago this was posted on NavyForMoms. It shows that people need NavyDads help,
http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/navy-moms-dealing-with-navy...
I want to echo what Calvin said guys and add that without members like you that are willing to "pay it forward" and help others, that this site would not be what it is today. Being willing to get in the trenches, so to speak, and tell it like it is and point folks towards the answers is what NavyDads is all about.
John and Craig, I would like to Thank You for the comments and questions you have posted on this Group. Not only have you learn from other you are willing to help those new to the Navy. It is a great feeling to see members help others and this is what has made NavyDads the place to get info on what to expect as the guys and gals start their journey into the Navy.
Vincent - As you said "This site works". The reason this site works is members usually "pay forward" to the new members that are about to do the stuff that you have just experienced.
Everyone has a different reason for leaving, and that's ok, but you are now the one that is totally experienced of what happens. Everything is fresh in your mind. It's ashame to not pass on that wealth of knowledge.
As you said, it's not about you, it about their children and the future of our great nation. My thought is you should be passing it on....
For the newbies, I am not the creator or administration on NavyDads, I'm just a normal member (just like you) here that believes in helping the sailors and their families understand the Navy.
May God bless our sailors and their families!
Dear Navy Boot Camp members,
I am signing off form this site but not without a thank you. For 8 weeks you have kept me informed and answered a number of my questions and made it easier to get through that time period. My daughter's PIR was March 2, 2012. This site works. Keep writing to your son or daughter, regardless if you do not hear from them. More importantly, they need to hear from you in the form of a letter many times over. Put your concerns aside and think how they feel from being totally connected electronically until this,,, a phone card? C'mon parents, like the creators and administrators of this site continuously and effortlessly remind you...it's not about you it is about your children, the future of our nation. Pass it on!
Michael, That is awesome! Congrat's to your son on his graduation. I know you are proud.
