No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Merrill....Not sure what kind of help you are seeking...if you cannot get an answer, call your congressman- they can usually get an answer

My wife called me I'm in San Antonio saying that we had received his form letter with a note saying he was having a great time.

Merrill:  They process paperwork, and only tell people things mostly at the last minute.  For every week, there are hundreds of new Sailors who need to be processed, and they all don't go the same places, catch the same flights, etc.  Our daughter was kind of in the same situation, thinking she was having leave before reporting to her duty station after A School at Great Lakes, and ended up being booked through (the only connections available) in what looked like a big checkmark from Illinois through Phoenix, and home to the Pacific Northwest.  That's all that was available.  LOL!  BTW - Don't count on recruiters to know much, they're pretty much down the food chain of the information.

I need help.  Our daughter is coming home Wednesday.  She asked to be sent home (our home) in Minneapolis.  She was asked for her preference and has only heard that she is leaving Wednesday.  They have not told her where she is being sent. She inducted through Phoenix MEPS.  How can we find out where she is being sent?  And why have they not told her?

I am very disappointed.  First she was told to hydrate to the tune of 2 gallons a day, developed a bladder retention issue AND had signs of water intoxication.  Then when she was going over her paperwork with SEPS she noted that it was stated that this was a pre-existing condition when it wasn't.  She did get that corrected.  Now she is being told she is leaving Wednesday with no information on where she is being sent.  We checked with her recruiter and he said she was being sent to Phoenix!  What is going on!  We cannot reach anyone who will speak with us!

Jack...You can expect the form letter around Wed of this week. It will have the correct address for your SR.....patience, my friend!

Comment by Rick Sandoval on February 27, 2012 at 6:23pm

@ Jack - Did you try the standard address of SR (Last, FirstName Middle Initial), Ship 04, Division 119, Recruit Training Command, etc? He may be very busy but no news is STILL good news. You just keep writing no matter what. The letters will catch up with him. Keep them positive and encouraging.

I have been writing my SR since I received the address from his recruiter.  We have not yet received a form letter since my SR reported to GL.  Todd S had suggested that the Recruiter be contacted to confirm his address.  I have tried to contact the Recruiter in charge and have yet to hear from him.  I sure he is busy but how much longer should I wait.  Because of my sons background playing Trumpet in the Marching and Jazz band maybe he volunteered.

John, Yea I'm hanging in there. The letters are in process and some are ready to mail. Just no where to mail them! I even have them half addressed so all is have to do is fill in the ship, div, etc.

Comment by David R on February 27, 2012 at 3:36pm

Todd because of NJROTC my son went in as an E3, however unitl he graduted BC he was considered as SR, once he passed BC and at PIR he had the correct rank on his uniform and was paid the back pay for the difference in E1 and E3 pay
