No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny
Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.
RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

A question for the experienced dads, or even veterans that have served. My son was on delayed entry and was able to rank up to E2 by recruiting friends. That made him "Seaman Apprentice, or SA" as i understand. The form letter says to address them by "SR, Last Name, First Name". Should I not address my letters as "SA" just to be proper? Also, for those looking for ideas about what to write... My son is a Gunners Mate. For some inspiration, I am using "Google Images" to find cool pictures of that job which is easy in this case, lots of BIG guns! I then cut and paste an image in each letter as the "picture of the day" and include a caption. Today's picture was a hot photo of singer Jessica Simpson firing a 50mm machine gun on the deck of a ship while she was on a tour in the Arabian Sea.
Yup. I believe the word is "wanes" - glimmers here and there, then things fade for a while. Our daughter has (mostly) been in port as the ship is refitted/upgraded, but - I don't remember the term exactly, they've done testing and certifications on the new equipment. About four days ago we got a phone call with her all excited about some new training she's doing, but "no, I'm sorry. I can't tell you what it does." LOL! I've found Tom Clancy books help divert my attention. LOL!
George & Randy - rookies! LOL! Relax it is all normal. We went through it more than two years ago, and still have times of wondering if everything is okay even though our daughter has done a seven-month deployment and we got to do a Tiger Cruise for six days coming back on her destroyer. The feelings of not knowing and wondering don't change. I kind of resolved it as parental Boot Camp for times we don't hear from her for weeks during deployment and we really have no idea where in the world she is.
Thank you all for your comments. One minute I'm just fine, the next I'm not. It will all work out soon.
@George, you could always contact the recruiter for his address.
Hello George.....we didn't get our form letter until 16 days in, be patient, I know how you feel. At first my son could only mail letters on Sundays, but now he can mail on Tues and Thurs also. I encourage you to write often. We also got the names of some of his division mates thru the website and have sent them words of encouragement as well.
FYI, I see that RTC had just updated the April 13th PIR schedule. It appears 10 divisions will be gradulating.
We are still just waiting for the form letter. I can not even send the letters we have waiting for an address. It has been 11 days since he shipped. Got his box of clothes, expected the form letter by now.
