No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Our son left 2/13 for MEPS and left there for GL on the 2/14th. This "I'm processing" call was about 10pm and the form letter arrived with new address on the 17th. His recruiter posted an address on our son's FB page which changed. Really don't expect another call for a few weeks. I take NO NEWS is good news in all situations. And knowing he is in Div 922 he has even less time to write back. Hoping he makes time to study! BC is not the worst part of his Naval experience - based on my experience!

Like Rick said --

Write to your SR --

Anything they get from home helps.

Write totally trivial true stuff like

"Went to buy groceries -- thought of you -- hope you doing well --eager to hear from you keep up the good work"

Any word you send will help your SR

Write to your SR.

Not to worry George. It takes time for them to form up and yes they do wait for divisions to fill up before being allowed to make another call or send out letters. It also depends on how well the division is "coming together". They all now have to work as a team and if one messes up, they all pay for it. It builds teamwork at the expense of others. Fair, no. Effective, yes. My daughter graduates 3/9 and it has been a real nerve wracking experience on my wife. I married her with kids after I retired from the military so I knew what to expect. Letters are sporadic from Boot Camp but they will write. YOU on the other hand need to have everyone who knows your SR write to them. I am a former Drill Sergeant and I know how important letters from home are. It does not matter what is in the letter (keep them upbeat) as long as they get something. They have enough to concentrate than adding more about who is doing what wrong at home. Hang in there and support them no matter what. Encourage them always no matter how you or others feel about their decision. Give out the address wisely and refuse those YOU feel may do harm. Good luck and be proud of his decision.

Has anyone on here who had a son or daughter ship on or after feb. 16,2012 received the letter with PIR, Div etc. we are just still waiting. I hope it is not lost in the mail. appears others who shipped on the 15th or before got theirs. got the call im ok at 3am morning of 17th. i wonder if he had to wait all last week for divisions to fill. would his recruiter be able tell me?

David,

Thanks for asking.  Ship 12, Division 094.  PIR 3/16/12.

Just got our first call other than "I'm here" from our son.  He left for GL on 1-24-12, so it's been a while.  Apparently, his division had been messing up a bit, so their previously scheduled calls had been cancelled.

So, six letters (five of them arrived on one day), and a phone call so far, and we'll go see his PIR in about 2 1/2 weeks.  So hang in there, other dads, especially if you're SR just left.  Contact could be far and few between.

Congratulations to this week's Captain's Cup winners! Taking top honors for the non-integrated divisions was Div. 076, and taking top honors for the integrated divisions was Div. 915.

Captain's Cup is a fun, friendly athletic event between divisions that are set to graduate the following week. Events include tug-of-war, basketball, volleyball, relay races and more.

Feb. 19 2010, My sons PIR. The only thing that ever beat that moment was standing on the pier to great him for homecoming.

One other thing... We thought it was just a form letter until we turned in over. He was able to squeak in a personal paragraph and told us that BC was fast with no sleep, but he was shaving fun!
