Today's RTC Daily Reminder

GRADUATION ACCESS:

On graduation morning, the gate opens at 6:30 a.m. and the ceremony begins at 9 a.m., concluding at 10:30 a.m.

Guests must use Gate 8, located on Ohio Street, off Buckley Road and directly across from the Metra training station.

If you are driving onto the base, each vehicle must have a gate pass downloadable from our website using the password that only your recruit will provide. RTC is a restricted base and no other command base stickers are valid here. All vehicles MUST have a gate pass.

If you do not have a gate pass, you can either take a hotel shuttle or taxi to the gate and then it's only about a 100-yard walk to the visitors center for check-in.

Guests arriving after 9:15 a.m. will not be allowed into the drill hall for the ceremony and instead will be escorted to the chapel to watch the live stream. Late arriving guests are not allowed as we do not wish to disrupt the ceremony with guests arriving well after it has started and trying to find seating. Please allow plenty of travel time to arrive promptly and take into consideration that — depending on the size of the graduation — there can be anywhere from 1,500 to 4,000 guests all arriving in a short time span.

Got the first letter from my son today. He's in his third week at Great lakes said he is doing good loves his uniform said he feels so proud to wear it. Iam so proud of my son. I can't wait until PIR 9/25/15

RANDOM PHOTOS

The Public Affairs Office has two staff members that take random photos as time permits. The photos are random in that whichever divisions happen to be present when the photographers are out and about, those are ones photographed.

Unfortunately, we do not have the manpower to photograph all 75+ divisions in training at once during the eight short weeks they are here. The staff also has many other job responsibilities that many times take precedence over random photos as photography is not their sole duty.

We also do not take photo requests so posting a request will not cause the photographers to go seek out your division in particular. We respectfully ask that everyone please refrain from requesting specific divisions in posts and in private e-mails as well as asking us when we’re going to be taking photos. We do not have a set schedule for photos.

While we understand everyone is anxious to see a photo of their recruit, the recruits’ training takes priority and the photographers cannot be a distraction nor intrude on a division’s training. If a division is in the middle of an inspection in their compartment, the photographer will not take their photos. If a division’s RDCs do not want their division photographed because they are in the middle of a training lesson and the photographer would be a distraction, again, the photos will not be taken.

During the outdoor marching photos, should any recruits break their military bearing by making silly faces or smiling/laughing into the camera, those frames are deleted. If numerous recruits from the same division are doing this, the photographer will stop photographing that division altogether and this has happened a few times recently.

We do appreciate everyone’s patience and are grateful for all those who post kind words of praise for the photographers who do their best to photograph all they can in a week’s time in addition to other photo/story assignments.

Thanks for all the info.  I got a call from my recruit yesterday morning.  We got to talk for about 30 minutes, which was a real treat.  He told me he bought a watch at the Base exchange.  He was excited about the SMAT that is coming up next week.  He said things were going well and that his division (299)  is really coming together.  They just got their second round of haircuts and they all went with the "high and tight". HIs sense of humor is as active as it every was.  He is really starting to make some friends and is looking forward to A school in San Antonio for MA training, several guys in his division are headed there as well.

Well everyone was right.Got a call from boy yesterday and he has a 100% turn around.Says he is enjoying the challenges and since he is good at art has been asked to help design the div.flag.Sounded so much like a man I could hardly knew it was him!

this was posted about a year ago on another site: The only people in my division that were allowed watches were RPOC, AROC, YN, Port Watch, Starboard Watch, Laundry Crew, Section leaders, and maybe a few others like Ship's staff.

In my last letter from my son he said he wanted me to send him his watch while he is at RTC.  Can he receive a small package or should I put it in a padded envelope?
