No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Mortals or not, we Dads still wonder what's going on. My wife has our daughter's Recruiter's cell number on her phone and texts him when she's got a question. He usually answers within minutes, and is very accommodating with information and guidance. I guess some of them don't realize that beyond the Recruit is also a Navy family. He trained our daughter quite well, and now the ship's Ombudsman has also worked with all the Sailors aboard. Maybe we're just lucky and have some organized people involved?

that's because NavyMoms is an official Navy site and the moms seem to be able to drag info out of our sailors better than most dads!!!

Go to navy moms and look up ship 10 div 340. A lady there posted a detailed letter from her son telling her his daily funtions from wake up untill he goes to sleep.

my wife gets more info from navy moms then I get here. But that don't surprize me one bit.

Hello guys
I hope your son's and daughter's are better writing then my son. We can't seem to drag any info from him. My wife wrote him a letter with nothing but questions with a space for him to circle yes or no. This way he can fill it out and send it back. LOL he has always been like this though. We could never drag info about high school either so it seems like he is doing fine. We have had one phone call and two letters. You can expect one letter a week because I think they can only do mail on Sundays if they behave.

OMG....no aiguillette???? They would look like mere mortals then....that just would not be acceptable!!!!! I know they are busy, but look at it from the parent's point of view!!!

haha- Paul.., good idea! I have that recruiter survey somewhere around here ;) ..trade that aiguillette in for a mash ladle.

Hey Chris.., Thank you! We did get 'the box' on Monday -- no form letter enclosed, which wasn't too surprising - I was counting on (or at least hoping for) help from the RS. Yeah - his dog is certainly his best friend ;)

yeah...I have a real issue with recruiters not providing that info on a timely basis...as far as I'm concerned, if the recruiter doesn't want to provide that sort of info they should head back to fleet and head down to the galley where they can "crank" for a month or two.....
Comment by NDx2 on September 17, 2010 at 11:28am
augh... ..Son reported aboard RTC on 9/9 and still no form letter. Been trying to get his Ship/Div from his recruiter since Monday (they're supposedly have that info within 72 hours of reporting) - no joy. The waiting sucks. Even his dog has a letter waiting to be mailed.
