No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny
Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.
RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Robert - Your daughter would have so much of a easier time in bootcamp if she also joins a forum. There is so much information out there that she will have the complete picture prior to leaving. 80% of the battle is the "unknowns".... So make everything known and it can't hurt you. There are many out there, just have her find one that she is confortable where she becomes an active member.
My son was raised around all of my Navy friends.... He knew the game, and they could never "push his buttons" in bootcamp. He has so much fun in bootcamp.
Lastly, I want you to print off this Q&A that a female did for me and give it to your daughter. It has alot of cool info for females...

Question-it seems that my son has just started PT in his 3nd week ,it has taken awhile to fill his ship the first 2 weeks what are they doing with this down time and will it hurt their training? his ship is 7 div 351

Welcome to all the newly-Navy Dads! I haven't been on here in a while, but I LIVED on here and the Navyformoms site when our son went through boot camp. That was almost 2 years ago. He's a GM3, and recently returned from his first 7-month deployment. The first couple of weeks of boot camp were definetly the toughest on his Mom and I....but it got slowly and steadily easier. You guys hang in and don't hesitate to ask for help or input. Welcome to our network of proud Navy Dads!

Welcome to the group, Brent. The road ahead holds lots of surprises, lots of questions and a whole lot of pride. We're in the last week of somewhat having contact with our daughter who is now based in San Diego. Her destroyer deploys within a week.

For our family it started today (Sep 13). My son swearing in at the Memphis MEPS. He is on the plane right now headed to boot camp. We are very proud parents, and my wife is still occasionally teary-eyed.
