No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Thanks Chris, what is your daughter's rating?

There are brother or sister divisions housed in the same building, but they have separate division numbers, according to what was happening when our daughter was there. Usually, there are two "sides" or wings to the building, one for female and the other for males. The male and female portions of the same division have the same joint training schedules, and end up doing Battle Stations 21 together as a team in the last week. If you look at the Navy Racks video above, or some of the other videos around, you'll see training is mixed. Our daughter was a Petty Officer for the physical training section, which was sort of funny because she's only 5-2 and beyond about the third row, the rest of their 88 people could not see her. But they could hear her. LOL!

Thanks Greg, I was under the impression that divisions were made up of just one sex and they had a brother or sister division that they trained with but in my daughter's letter she spoke of men in her division so that makes sense.

There are div. with just men only. Our son's PIR had 14 divisions graduate and only four of the Div had women in them.

It was great, met Paul B at the Meet-n-Greet. They never mentioned the end of the war.
I went around and took pics of all the 900 division sailors I could. I think 10 on N4M were able to see their sailors close up...
Today is the last day with our sailor. He's been with his GF all for the last 5 hours... Wow....The entire weekend has been great....

For those who didn't get the "letter" with their mailing address, etc., you can normally contact the Recruiter and he/she will have the information, too.

Divisions are mixtures of men and women, usually, but they do have separate quarters (usually men in one wing and women in another) where the opposite sex is not allowed.

Are there some Divisions made up of men and women and others with just men?
Comment by Craig on September 5, 2010 at 9:07am
If anyone has a sailor from the 943 or 944 division please contact me, I probably have a picture of your sailor.
(the 900's division are performers), I took about 80 pictures of the various sailors from these two divisions during my nephews PIR on Sept 2nd.

We just got a call from our daughter. She's been at GL less than two weeks, we haven't gotten the form letter yet. When I heard her voice I just knew something was wrong. Turns out I was wrong. Her division had only got in trouble once because two girls passed out during PT. So they had recieved phone priveleges. The call was better than any letter.
