No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny
Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.
RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Richard, I remember how excited I was receiving the first, and subsequent letters from my son at Boot Camp. At risk of stating the obvious, make sure you write him back, as often as you can. They so look forward to those letters from family.

Speaking of big days at Boot Camp PIR. When my son graduated last year, his PIR was on September 11th. How random is that !

Hello All
I received my first letter from my son Eric this morning. What a releif it is to know he is doing good. Besides complaining of some of the exercises ( the one where you lay on your stomach and raise both arms and feet and pretend you are swimming) he seems in good spirits. He stated that the petty officers are real funny and also said he won't ever make a bed whenever he gets a chance to come home. Once again what a releif it is to know he is handling it there now maybe I can sleep a little better.

Greg-I think that this was about the time I started writing my first letter to my son. The weeks feel like they drag by, but then all of a sudden it's PIR. I know, I head off to my sons' PIR Wednesday! Hang in there, write a lot, send newspaper clippings from home, and don't forget to tell him how proud you are!

the general rule...third week for a letter/maybe a call......if you read past posts you'll see many mentions of the old saying: no news is good news. Keep the faith and keep writing your letters

My son Eric left for bootcamp on the 16th of this month. Anbody have any idea when we might hear from him ( either mail or phone) ? I must say I'm getting a little nervous here and my wife is a basket case.
