To better accommodate traffic flow on the day after graduation when families and friends pick up Sailors for liberty, a new traffic plan will direct guests to the parking garage adjacent to the USS Yorktown visitors center, the same place you would park on graduation morning.
Gate 8 (same entrance used on graduation morning) will be open from 6 to 10 a.m. All guests will park in the garage to wait for their Sailors who will meet them there. When dropping off Sailors later in the day, guests will use Gate 6 at Illinois Street and Buckley Road and drop the Sailors off in the chapel parking lot.
Gate 8 will NOT be open to vehicular traffic when returning your Sailors from liberty. Sailors may also be dropped off at Gate 8 to access base on foot via the automated turnstile using their CAC (Common Access Card).
PLEASE NOTE: **ONLY GUESTS WITH GRADUATION TICKETS MAY ACCESS THE BASE WHEN PICKING UP AND DROPPING OFF SAILORS TO AND FROM LIBERTY! PLEASE RETAIN YOUR TICKETS FROM GRADUATION.** GUESTS INTENDING TO PICK UP A SAILOR FOR LIBERTY WITHOUT A TICKET WILL BE TURNED AND MAY HAVE TO PICK UP THEIR SAILOR AT GATE 8.
For those family and friends unable to attend RTC graduation, it will be streamed live over the internet at 0845 (CST) on the day of graduation. Please follow the link below and join us in honoring the service of these young men and women.

Gary Congrats to you all! With regards to rude people, I found that these magic words normally takes care of 99.9 percent of the problem "Let me speak with your supervisor"...
Just returned from P.I.R Oct 26th and it was everything I Imagined and more. Thank you everybody who provided all the hints help and tips. The only bummer was our new Sailor had to leave for Midway airport around midnight Friday but his plane didn't leave for Pensacola until 1:30 Saturday afternoon which I totally understand and have no problem with. The problem was when we arrived at Midway to give him his phone Saturday morning around 8:00 am there was a considerable line at the AirTran gate where we where told we could obtain a companion pass to get us through Security so we could spend a couple more hours with him at the USO, Unfortunetly the ticketing agent told us that he wouldn't even consider dealing with us until he processed all the people in line first and it would be at least 45 minutes to an hour in a not so kind tone of voice. My son having been up all night and very very tired lost it as well as the rest of the family. I didnt want to make a big scene but in hindsight probably should have pushed the issue a bit more. I just wish there could have been a better way for this to be handled. So after standing around outside of security(Not even a decent place to sit down)My son said Dad go ahead and go so you can spend more time in Chicago sight seeing dont worry about me I will be fine :( I know I may sound jaded but everbody we incountered at Midawy up to and including the parking attendents where rude and unprofessional. I guess this is a heads up for everybody headed to Midway airport to meet there loved ones please be prepared . Maybe our timing just wasnt right but I remain very dissapointed. So off to bigger and better things for our newest Sailor thanks for letting his old man vent.
PIR in 2 WEEKS for SHIP 03 DIV 370!!!!!!!!! Cannot wait to get there &
HUG my son!!!!! Hope to meet alot of his new mates and their families!!!
over the years we're heard about sailors giving away unused slots on their PIR guest list to other sailors that need more guest slots for PIR. This is from RTC yesterday:
this is something that some recruits may have chosen to do, they are instructed not to do so. It is against RTC policy, and compromises safety procedures that we have put in place. If we are able to determine that guests do not belong to the recruit they are placed under, they will not be allowed access to PIR. Thank you for your understanding and continued support of the Navy's only boot camp!
Tim,Paul, Thanks. The reason I ask is that my son is leaving next month for BC and we were having this discussion with my In-Laws, who will be attending PIR with us, and my mother in law thought that she didn't need to be on the list because she has a military ID card since my father in law is retired. My wife and I said that we aren't assuming anything and she will be put on the list. But its always nice to make sure.
I'm going a step further and reminding all that active duty and retired military must present a valid Active Duty/Retired military ID card to be excluded from the "4 names rule".
Gary I haven't seen anything for sure but i do believe that the only person covered by your question is the retired military person
Can anyone tell me if the spouse of retired Navy has to be on the "list" of 4 people or are they exempt from the list along with the retired military personnel?
from RTC regarding PIR 21 Nov::
Recruits attending "A" school in Great Lakes will depart on 21 Nov and report to their new command. Following normal check-in procedures, they will be authorized liberty Wednesday, 21 Nov and Thursday, 22 Nov.
Recruits attending "A" school outside of Great Lakes will depart RTC 23 Nov. They will be authorized liberty Wednesday, 21 Nov and Thursday, 22 Nov.
