To better accommodate traffic flow on the day after graduation when families and friends pick up Sailors for liberty, a new traffic plan will direct guests to the parking garage adjacent to the USS Yorktown visitors center, the same place you would park on graduation morning.
Gate 8 (same entrance used on graduation morning) will be open from 6 to 10 a.m. All guests will park in the garage to wait for their Sailors who will meet them there. When dropping off Sailors later in the day, guests will use Gate 6 at Illinois Street and Buckley Road and drop the Sailors off in the chapel parking lot.
Gate 8 will NOT be open to vehicular traffic when returning your Sailors from liberty. Sailors may also be dropped off at Gate 8 to access base on foot via the automated turnstile using their CAC (Common Access Card).
PLEASE NOTE: **ONLY GUESTS WITH GRADUATION TICKETS MAY ACCESS THE BASE WHEN PICKING UP AND DROPPING OFF SAILORS TO AND FROM LIBERTY! PLEASE RETAIN YOUR TICKETS FROM GRADUATION.** GUESTS INTENDING TO PICK UP A SAILOR FOR LIBERTY WITHOUT A TICKET WILL BE TURNED AND MAY HAVE TO PICK UP THEIR SAILOR AT GATE 8.
For those family and friends unable to attend RTC graduation, it will be streamed live over the internet at 0845 (CST) on the day of graduation. Please follow the link below and join us in honoring the service of these young men and women.

I brought 2 extra to my Son's PIR and they had to wait until all others were seated but there was no problem getting them in. Those not on the list will have to wait in MCPON hall until being escorted in, no big deal.
Is there a PIR group yet for 1/27/2011?
You're the man Gary! Lots of great information there. Chris' PIR was also smaller, 5 divisions.
Thanks so much, this is great information. I'll let my son know today.
Jeffrey,
Per RTC:
"Four seats are guaranteed per recruit; however, children 12 years old and younger do not count against the four-guest maximum. The graduating recruit is responsible for identifying those individuals to be placed on the access list. Please coordinate with your recruit via letters regarding who will be on the access list. No additions, deletions or changes will be made to the access list the week of graduation. The four guests on the access list will be admitted into the ceremonial drill hall first. Additional guests not on the access list will have to wait inside the Visitor Center until after the start of the ceremony at which time they will be allowed into the ceremonial hall if additional seating is available as space permits. No additional seating can be guaranteed. PLEASE DO NOT CALL FOR ADDITIONAL SEATS. All visitors must have valid photo identification. This requirement includes children (school ID, Social Security card or copy of birth certificate). Please be aware that security may deny base admission to guests NOT on the access list if they are not accompanied by a guest who is on the access list."
Per our experience we attended PIR with a party of 5. My son's mom and I are also divorced. So it was his mom and stepdad, me and my wife and his girlfriend. On the Form Letter (which he sent to his mom then his mom gave me a copy via email), it only had us four listed on the Access List. He later (per RTC reference above) added his girlfriend to the Access List.
Your scenario numbers wise is exactly like ours. TG-10 PIR 1/27/2012 has 7 Graduating Divisions. There should be plenty of room for additional seating as there can be as many as 10 or more Graduating Divisions on a given PIR.
Write to your SR and let Benjamin know to make the change addition(s) to the Guest List when given the chance. Us five together were all admitted in the PIR Hall.
Hope this helps...
Thanks so much for answering. His PIR date is 27 January. I got the impression there was zero flexibility, it's great to hear that there's at least a chance my mom and my wife could both attend. When would be a good time to contact the Public Affairs office? If there was sufficient room, how would the extra person get in, would my son need to add an additional name to the list, or would they just let anyone in if there was enough room?
When is your son's scheduled PIR? There is wiggle room depending on the size of the graduating group. My son's PIR last January 21st had about 370 graduating sailors, and there was plenty of room in the Midway ceremonial hall. And the Navy wants to accommodating and also show off their shiny new Sailors. You can contact the Public Affairs office to ask; make sure EVERYONE brings suitable and non expired government-issued identification such as driver's licenses or passports.
I'm sure this is a common question/issue. My son's mom and I are divorced, and so will each have two invitations to his PIR. On my side, he'd like my and his grandmother to attend. My wife will be coming along, but won't be able to attend the ceremony unless my son's grandmother can't go and we are able to change the invitation list in time. What do other families do when there are not enough spots? It's likely to be quite cold, any suggestions?
Thanks.
Holiday leave for Training Group 6 (those graduating Dec. 29)
Holiday leave for Training Group 6 (those graduating Dec. 29) will begin at 1600 (4 p.m.) Dec. 29 and expire at 2359 (11:59 p.m.) Jan. 8. All recruits will depart RTC that same day, whether they are staying at Great Lakes or going out of state for A School. Recruits graduating Dec. 29 will have three options following graduation:
1) Not request leave and go directly to their A School as planned, departing from RTC.
2) They may have someone pick them up and stay within 75 miles of the base. Airline tickets will be issued from Great Lakes to their next command where their A School is located. There will be no reimbursement for local transporation. So, if they go somewhere within 75 miles of the base, they must pay for their own transportation to return to Great Lakes.
3) They depart from RTC and go on leave out of the area. They will do so at their own expense. They are responsible for getting to their A School at their own expense. Once they are at A School, they can then file for a travel claim. They will only receive travel pay at the government rate for what the flight would have cost to ship them from Great Lakes to their A School. So, they are paying for their own flight home and will only receive reimbursement for the flight from home to their A School, and that reimbursement will only be equaled to the cost of what it would cost to fly from Great Lakes to their next command. Should a recruit not graduate for any reason, the command will not reimburse any travel costs.Recruits will be instructed and given the opportunity to purchase their own airline tickets if they choose to go home. Please coordinate/communicate with your recruit if you are going to be purchasing their airline tickets for them. They will instruct you where you will need to send their itineraries here at RTC.
