Chris- that question has come up many times.....I just searched Groups for the term "guests" and had 14 hits. There are those that have bent the guidelines posted by the Navy....I doubt they will turn a REASONABLE number guests away, but I'm one of those folks that believes that when the Navy says 4 I listen and limit myself to 4. Read through the past posts and you can decide what you want to do.

Q. How many guests per recruit are allowed to attend Pass-In-Review?

A.+/- Four seats are guaranteed per recruit; however, children 12 years old and younger do not count against the four-guest maximum. The graduating recruit is responsible for identifying those individuals to be placed on the access list. Please coordinate with your recruit via letters regarding who will be on the access list. No additions, deletions or changes will be made to the access list the week of graduation. The four guests on the access list will be admitted into the ceremonial drill hall first. Additional guests not on the access list will have to wait inside the Visitor Center until after the start of the ceremony at which time they will be allowed into the ceremonial hall if additional seating is available as space permits. No additional seating can be guaranteed. PLEASE DO NOT CALL FOR ADDITIONAL SEATS. All visitors must have valid photo identification. This requirement includes children (school ID, Social Security card or copy of birth certificate). Please be aware that security may deny base admission to guests NOT on the access list if they are not accompanied by a guest who is on the access list.

OK, here is one I haven't seen on here yet. I know that our SR's can have only 4 people on the list that for sure get in to PIR. Can more than 4 show up for PIR and get put on a stand by list? Is there a over flow area or someplace they can wait for PIR to be over? It is very hard for Nicole to trim the list down to 4 people. We only live about 2 hours away from Great Lakes, so of course she has about 10 or more people that would love to come!!

OK parents....I know you've got a thousand things going on right now with a sailor at Great lakes.....I'm not sure if you've had the chance to check one of our great sponsors: Lock and Go. Many times your sailor are going to ask for things like cell phones, laptops, MP3 players, etc. whcih are not allowed on base. After PIR they might be at Great Lakes for several days before moving to A-school.....Lock and Go canprovide a secure locker for you to store those items for a very resonable cost until they can be retrieved by your sailor. It is a secure storage facility and is run by a Navy spouse so they know and understand the unique needs for secure storage for your sailor. It is a great solution for a common problem at Great Lakes!! Check them out!

Over the past couple of years the Residence Inn and Marriott Courtyard have probably had the best reviews.....with the Residence Inn coming out on top. The ones you have mentioned have been generally rated as "fair".....it's a matter of preference, locations, and cost that only you can address. I stayed at the Courtyard twice....I liked it.

I don't know that this will help anybody out (hopefully it will). I found this while looking around this morning. this link should help with those wondering if their Sailor will be a grad and go. the only other access you would have is to the Chapel on Sunday if with your sailor. There is virtually no access to the base otherwise. And remember: NO PHOTOS OUTSIDE WHATSOEVER....only inside the Drill Hall for PIR, in MCPON Hall and at the Nex.....

If you mean on-base, we can only go where they say. For PIR it is in a single gate, through the screening building, down and across to the review hall, and back on the same sidewalk. Don't walk on the grass. LOL!

Terry do you mean during liberty after PIR or during boot camp? During boot camp they do alot of their laundry, Ironing, Folding and genral stuff daily. While on Liberty you will notice that even the sloppiest of kids that you sent to Navy Boot camp will have a nice small pack they will take with them everywhere. This is actually their coat, jacket, that if while on liberty they will promptly pull out and put on over their dress whites without even a thought. when the rain stops they (again without a thought) will shake the water off of it and promptly and neatly fold and roll the jacket back up and proudly display their dress whites again.
If any sailor while on liberty is seen by a Petty Officer or higher rank without their jacket and cover. they will get some PT when they get back from liberty. It is quite the site to see all of the new sailors walking around inside a building with their cover and a neatly rolled jacket tucked under their arm. Besides the parents asking about their jackets all of the fellow sailors are keeping up with theirs and each others jackets and covers. One for all and all for one to the extreme but the unity is very nice to see.
