(I wasn't complaining, Tim) I would hold someone else's child if it meant all the family members could get it, and we did squeeze quite a bit for everyone back in April. But we made it work, and no one missed out.

I myself applaud the parents that try to squeeze in the more than 4 allotted guests for each sailor by having their kids under 12 set on their laps.
Mind you I'm not trying to be confrontaional or an arse in any way. I myself took in a 6 month old baby along with My daughter-in-law, youngest son, Wife and myself. I am not the type of person that is given an inch and takes a mile. I am and always will be considerate of others while revelling in my sons PIR. I myself got up out of my seat and let an older gentleman that could not see very well have my chair so that he could see the 4th generation of sailor in his family partake in his PIR. I was one of the people that were there at 630 in the morning and got in the hall early and got the good seats that I wanted to see my son and so that he could see his wife and daughter in the crowd. I still got to see my sons PIR, from a standing position holding my granddaughter, not from the comfort that I had planned on but I got to see it all the same. I am looking forward to my youngest sons PIR and would not hesitate to stand again and let a great grandfather have my seat.

There are benches in the viewing areas, so people can squeeze a bit. Back in April when our Lady Sailor graduated, there were 12 divisions and a total of 890 new Sailors. It was packed, including children under 12 sitting on their parents' laps.

Paul B ~ You know how when you go camping the women do all the work and all the guys do is poke the fire and make it look like we are actually doing something? Same with this PIR get together.... Let the women plan it and you just tagalong (isn't that a Girl Scout cookie?)

Tim ~ I've been doing this stuff for years, the Navy has not and will not turn anyone away. This is where the Navy wants to shine and show the world what it has to offer. They will get everyone in even if they have to use a dang shoe horn to get them in. Go to this link: http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/faq_family.asp and read the FAQ that says:

Q. How many guests per recruit are allowed to attend Pass-In-Review?

A.+/- Four seats are guaranteed per recruit; however, children 12 years old and younger do not count against the four-guest maximum. The graduating recruit is responsible for identifying those individuals to be placed on the access list. Please coordinate with your recruit via letters regarding who will be on the access list. No additions, deletions or changes will be made to the access list the week of graduation. The four guests on the access list will be admitted into the ceremonial drill hall first. Additional guests not on the access list will have to wait inside the Visitor Center until after the start of the ceremony at which time they will be allowed into the ceremonial hall if additional seating is available as space permits. No additional seating can be guaranteed. PLEASE DO NOT CALL FOR ADDITIONAL SEATS. All visitors must have valid photo identification. This requirement includes children (school ID, Social Security card or copy of birth certificate). Please be aware that security may deny base admission to guests NOT on the access list if they are not accompanied by a guest who is on the access list.

Hey Craig-We are planning on attending the Meet and Greet at the Ramada on 9/1/10. Are you gathering a list, or who do I inform? We will have 2 for sure, possibly four. Let me know will you. Thanks.

Craig have you read all of the allotments for PIR for your sailor? when your sailor gets to RTC they are given a form to fill out that gives them tickets for 4 people to enter into PIR. I won't say that they won't let a few extras in but they are limited on seating in the hall. with 8 or 9 divisions graduating with an average of 80 sailors per div. you see why they limit each sailor to 4 attendees. He's a link trehat might help you out with times and placement and some general terms that you may or may not have heard so far. Congratulations and hope you enjoy the wonderful time to be had at PIR.

Here is a good deal if you are planning to go to the PIR... This is the link to the Ramada. It has special pricing for people going to the PIR. The rooms appear bigger than the Navy Lodge, so we are trying out the Ramada this time. So far we have 36 attending and 10 that might attend for the 9/2 graduation...

The Residence Inn, Waugegan, offers shuttles at $3 per person each way. Go EARLY by 6:30 a.m., even though there's still a crowd, it is better than trying to find somewhere to sit (with many divisions graduating) if you're late.

Mike recommended Candlewood Suites on Waugegan Blvd. We're staying at the Navy Lodge, but they don't offer any shuttle service. $65.00 a night, no taxes or fees.
