No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

BOB and PAUL , my son and I didn't see eye to eye the last few months (not just just because he's now 6'1" )and I hope he knows he will be missed .I 'm hoping he'll see why I was so tough on him over the years .Glad to see he has taken charge of his life with what I did teach him...now the Navy can polish him up. We missed his first phone call home, I hope he isn't too upset ,maybe he won't get homesick this way.His ultimate goal is to become AIRR rescue swimmer. Thanks for the info.-JOHN

Well...it was only about 8 weeks ago that my daughter left for Boot camp. She is graduating on the 20th and I couldn't be more proud of her. Good luck to everyone. She made it!!!!

You can only be allergic to a protein.

You can develope an allergy any time and it could go away at any time as well.

Also, it could be that a threshold of allergen exposure was reached to trigger a reaction.

Could he have an allergy to eggs? The key ingredient in making a vaccine.

He should be tested for allergies, they take his blood and run the tests.

I am allergic to lettuce! It has one protein...weird I know. Can't eat cilantro or fresh basil either.

Yes, discuss options with his recruiter. The danger is to himself and having airway issues when in the field. Also, some of the medications can cause drowsiness and he won't be able to stand watch or drive...

It will be interesting to know how this turns out, hope this info helps you. All my best to your son! Good luck.

Dr 2x4--- I'm not sure that your son can change his rate as I believe his medical condition would trump rate requirements. His best bet may be to seek qualified medical personnel if his is discharged and get definitive diagnosis...he may be able to re-enlist, but be sure to find out from qualified Naval personnel what his options are. I'd be talking to his recruiter and work up his chain of command. Please keep us all posted!!!

We just got Dan's form letter with a couple of handwritten lines. He sounds great, what a relief. He is in Ship 03, Div. 050. Anyone else in his group?

Our son is currently in boot camp ship 011 div24 or should I say that he was. He has just been moved to ship 5. It looks like he is going to be medically discharged for an allergic reaction he had in week 2. They are calling it Angio Edema. He did suffer from a few reactions of some sort over the last few years. After testing we could not find anythingthat he was specifically allergic to. It looks like his hope of being a "nuke" on a submarine is over due to this. My question for anyone is can he change his job? Will they consider that at this late date? If it is possible how do we make it happen. We are as a family devastated over this. If anyone knows anyone or something that would prove helpful to us at this late hour we would greatly appreciate it.
