No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

I thought I'd share something that I thought was mildly humorous, and enlightening. I've been swapping texts w/Holly quite a bit today and she informed me that she was relaxing in bed. She got lucky with her room assignment and for the time being she has her own room (With a real bed instead of a rack) and her own bathroom. Before boot camp that was something she took for granted, now it's a Godsend! Also, she said that Pensacola is awesome and it looks like her rate will class up on Monday and get started right away so she should be home on leave in about 4/5 weeks.

Hi Dick, my mother-in-law has a saying "Teenagers are God's way of teaching you to let go". There's a lot of truth in that. Well, if their teen years don't do it, I'm sure joining any branch of the service will. I'm still in Chicago after Friday's PIR and Holly's been at P-cola since Friday early Friday evening which kind of verifies what you're saying also.

hey everyone. my son pir'd 12/19/08 or thereabouts and was also grad and go. he is now at whidbey island after completing a- school. with just about a year in the navy now it makes me realize that us parents are not unlike our sailors as we too get tossed around alot and get jerked here and there. there are definately many ups and downs, and hurry up and waits. for me though it makes those moments together all the more meaningful as short as they may be, but the reality for me is i know that all this change has been for the better. there have been lessons learned by all of us not just the sailors. hope everyone has a great day and that call comes tonight. to God goes the glory and may he take care of not only our sailors but give comfort to all the stressed parents and relatives everywhere

My wife and I attended PIR this past friday, July 17th. Just as Liberty call was sounded, an elderly woman sitting below us, fell while trying to go down the bleachers. We were sitting in the upper bleachers, in front div. 243.
My wife and I stopped to help her up. We checked on her, she hurt her knee.
She is from New Jersey. If anyone knows her, we would like to know if she is ok?
She was really excited about her grandson graduating RTC.
Thanks,
Mike

Aj's PIR is Aug. 7th and will also be getting married in Dec. He is supposed to be getting the last two weeks of the year off from Nuke School.

Hi AJ's Dad, I'm sure it is gorgeous down there. I've never been to Pensacola before but I did get to spend a great 24 hours in Miami a few years ago. Great news on AJ, when's he PIR.

Hi everbody I live an hour away from Pensacola , it is beautiful down here your sailor will love it. I missed my phone call from Aj today , was out cutting the grass and did not realize the phone was ringing , he got through to his fiance though. they did good on a test and got a phone call.

Other people's behavior ultimately is no big deal in grand scheme of things. The only thing that truly bothered me was that 90% of my photographs were ruined by people not paying attention to what their small children were doing. It was a pretty tough shooting environment anyway but when you add kids jumping up and down on aluminum bleachers it goes from bad to worse. We need to keep in mind that we're all there for the same reason. You're right though, the important thing is that we got to show our support for her, get a hug and a kiss and now that she has her phone we can stay in touch. From here it's AB(E) training for her and then she hopes to get deployed on an aircraft carrier.

Kirk, when you speak with Holly be sure to let her know we were all pulling for her while she had all those unexpected obstacles to overcome during boot. We are very proud of her too. I'm sorry your time with her was so brief, but like the others said, your being there at PIR was very important to Holly. Pensacola is a nice place. Maybe you can plan to visit her while she's there.
Congratulations to the new sailor!!!

Any scientist that wants to study chaos needs to be at Great Lakes when Liberty is called!!
