Grandson lament

I am not at all concerned about his getting through Boot Camp or his enlistment, He a good kid and listens well.  I know he knows how to play with others, but who will teach him how to shine shoes when all they ever wear are sneakers. Most importantly, can any of todays young men walk without their face in their phone... LOL.

Thanks for the support.

Arrival

I was watching the video of the recruits arriving and it helped to kind of know what he is experiencing right now. I am anxiously awaiting the "I arrived " phone call.

MEPS Medical Error

Got a question about MEPS medical report

My daughter went through MEPS, she wanted MA, there was a spot available and she had a good enough ASVAB score but...

they said no way because her eyes were not correctable to 20/20

we called BS and had her checked (again) by her Ophthalmologist.  He's an eye surgeon.  Not just a Walmat Optician.

and he said she's 20/20 in one eye, 20/100 (correctable to 20/20) in the other eye.  So she's 20/20 wearing her glasses.

we submitted her…

ID to get on base

My son is returning from deployment in July and we're going down to see the ship come in.  We both have drivers licenses that will let us get on base.  My son is 15 and only has a school ID should I get him a US passport?

Glad I found NavyDads!

I found the NavyDads page on Thursday night while in the hotel. My son had his PIR on Friday. Better late than never on finding the page I guess. I am sure the site will be of help in the future too. We were very surprised to find out that my son was awarded the Academic Excellence award at the ceremony. Very proud dad here for sure.

Military Blood Donation

I have a question for any fellow Navy Dad/Mom/Admin...I know that military sites have blood drives, periodically. Does anybody know if I can donate to the military by-monthly without it having to be a blood drive? The reason for 'by-monthly', that is SOP for whole blood donation. I would greatly appreciate any help in pointing me in the right direction.

Our journey

Thank you all for welcoming me. I will share a bit of our story. My son Tyler was struggling in our public high school. Failing many classes. Always did great on tests. Everything else seemed unimportant to him. We tried many ways to motivate him, all unsuccessful. We found Lincoln's Challenge Academy. A military school sponsored by the national guard. It is here ho found his calling. Earning many honors, participating in extracurriculars, and graduating 3rd in his class. Part of the program… Continue

The time has come.  My son jerry is leaving for BC on Tuesday this week.  we will see him get sworn in and then he will start his amazing journey with the US Navy.  My wife and I cannot express how proud we are of him.  it will be tough seeing our oldest child leaving the home nest.

Question

When my son finishes boot camp he heads to San Antonio for MA training. What day after graduation will he leave? Sat. or Sunday ?

We got our very short call!

Got our call last night at around 9PM.  My wife took the call, and said it sounded very scripted...  but not much different than his usual calls... My son is very quick, and to the point..  just thought it rather funny that his communication style already matches the Navy!

How can I do this?

When did Todd turn into Mr. Melillo?!?! Today I say goodbye to my Todd as he goes off to his new adventure. He is leaving for Navy Boot Camp today, and we will not see him for 8 or 9 weeks. After that he will be heading to A School for a year, then off to his new career in the Navy. I am not sure if it is going to be harder on him, or on me. For the last 19 years, he has pissed me off at least once every day... and also made me laugh out loud, as least twice as much. I lived 26 years…
